FIONA FORBES D.A
Vibrant, colourful and uplifting paintings are Fiona’s speciality. She works in all media and enjoys painting outdoors in good weather. She uses a palette knife to create textured and colourful oils and acrylics.
Born in Cheshire, Fiona spent her childhood in Cyprus and Aden before completing her education in Scotland. She attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art followed by a year at Dundee College of Education in the 1970’s.
Fiona's nomadic lifestyle continued after meeting her husband and she spent many years in various European countries. Wherever she lived, she initiated and tutored watercolour classes as well as painting and exhibiting. Fiona also did a year at Bangor university, gaining a City and Guilds certificate in adult education in 2003.
This wealth of interacting with different cultures, nationalities and personalities has been a major influence on her art, palette and outlook on life.
In 2009 Fiona settled in Wiltshire and belongs to several art groups. She runs the Laverstock art club in Salisbury and does demonstrations and workshops locally.
Fiona exhibits regularly with groups, and had her first very successful solo exhibition since moving to England in Fisherton Mill Gallery , Salisbury, in May/June 2019. Her paintings, cards and prints are now on sale there.
Cards, prints and her new book, “Daily Flower Diary”, containing 70 images of watercolour flowers painting in Spring 2020, can also be bought through her website.
My painting influences come mostly from nature. I look for form and colour in the landscape and enjoy simplifying and abstracting the shapes and enhancing and changing colours to create vibrant and uplifting work.
I usually add flowers into my landscape paintings to make them more alive and colourful.
Plein air painting with watercolour is my favourite outdoor pursuit. Working quickly to capture the changing light and shadows is an exhilarating experience and creates more vibrant and exciting paintings.
When using oils and acrylics, I use a palette knife to add texture and interest to my work. My paintings are done onto primed MDF board which I can cut to whatever size I want.
