PROFILE
Liz Tanners’s roots are Yorkshire – villages, craftspeople, moorland and sea. She is the Yarn Creative at A TAIL OF YARN!
Liz’s creative path was defined, age 16, with the discovery of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement – their ethos that items should be handmade from start to finish using only local materials, be affordable, have clear form and function, simple decoration and use traditional methods have guided her textile journey since then.
A yarn and textile enthusiast from childhood, Liz began spinning her own yarn in 2019. She prepares local animal fibres and plant dyes, blends in sustainably and ethically sourced textile and mill waste, then spins them into bespoke characterful yarns.
MY CRAFT
These bespoke art yarns inspire my simply designed headwear, neckwear and craft kits; from the adaptable crochet Beanie-Bowler Hats, through the ‘50 Ways To Wear Your Manta’ knitted Shawls and into the plied salvaged-yarn crochet and knit pouches, bowls and baskets that contain my Spinning, Knitting and Crochet Kits.
I believe it’s vitally important to share skills and keep traditional crafts alive, so I teach 1:1 online and in person, and I host Yarn Club Creative sessions at my rural studio on the Wiltshire-New Forest Border.
Below is a selection of my hand spun sustainable yarn products.
