I dropped art at 13, to take the “academic” subjects. This rankled - I loved art. Years later a short ceramics course at a London Art School enthused me. It still does! I experiment with lace/seashells/leaves/found objects to texture the clay’s surface. I make things to raise a smile – animals; paint-boxes; tiny tables set for breakfast! Ceramics offers scope for continual learning of the techniques and science of ceramics.

My work is a contemporary look a country pottery. I focus on line, surface, and balance. I want my pots to convey an honesty about why and how they were made and for me the salt glazing process is a perfect application to achieve this. This process allows me to make pots with subtle and clean lines that are very approachable and usable while giving the work that extra durability that comes from the firing process.

Inspired by my family of ‘Bears’, family time and nature, I work largely with brush and ink to capture moments in time, usually from photographs I’ve taken. Often, I’ll turn my illustrations into prints using a dry point etching technique and my Victorian mangle printing press conversion in my garden studio.
